Why Ink & Influence?
Because words have power.
Language is one of the ways we understand ourselves, connect with other people and make sense of the world around us.
The right words can explain an idea, change a mind, make someone laugh, bring a memory to life or help us understand something we have never experienced ourselves.
Learning to use language well is therefore about much more than getting good marks in English. It is about learning to communicate.
This is not simply a class about writing.
It is a place where students learn to:
- Explore ideasWhat do I think? What am I curious about? What matters to me?
- Organise thoughtsHow can I make this idea clear to someone else?
- Choose languageWhich words say exactly what I mean?
- Find a voiceHow can I make this sound like me?
- Develop confidenceCan I trust what I have to say?
- Reach an audienceCan I communicate my ideas clearly and make an impact?
Not a formula factory
This is not a class built around memorising a formula or producing the same five-paragraph essay again and again.
It is not a grammar class, although grammar will sometimes be part of the work. It is not purely a creative writing class, although there will be plenty of creativity.
Ink & Influence is not only a writing class. It is a workshop for becoming a writer and a confident communicator.
Students do not need to have everything figured out before they begin. They need curiosity, practice, encouragement — and the confidence to keep trying.
Their ideas are worth developing. Their voices are worth hearing. Their words can have an impact.
